[Case Study] Reduction of Maintenance Frequency with Special Mechanical Seals

Reduction of maintenance frequency, increased longevity, and improved sealing performance with a special mechanical seal.

At a stone quarry factory with washing equipment, the use of asbestos in the gland packing of slurry pumps has been prohibited, and it has been changed to non-asbestos materials (Note 1). Previously, there were no issues for about three months, but now leaks occur in about a week, necessitating replacement, which has caused problems due to the frequency of pump leaks and maintenance. 1. The packing replacement work takes about an hour for a weekly replacement. 2. Slurry leaks also adhere to the bearings near the packing, requiring the pump to be disassembled every six months and taking half a day for replacement. 3. Slurry leaks onto the surrounding floor, necessitating daily cleaning. We have received a request to reduce these tasks as much as possible.

[Case Study] Two-Part Mechanical Seal That Can Be Installed Without Disassembling the Pump

Can be installed without disassembling the pump - 2-part mechanical seal.

In a factory using dozens of large circulation pumps for cooling water, frequent water leaks from the pumps were causing problems. These pumps used gland packing as the sealing material, but the seals were ineffective, leading to water leaks that soaked the surrounding area. The factory's production was busy, making it difficult to stop the pumps frequently, and the large number of pumps, along with the safety risks associated with tightening the packing and adjusting for leaks while the pumps were in operation, meant that these tasks were not being performed. 1. Increased loss of water and costs for recovery and cleaning. 2. Reduced lifespan and damage to bearings and pump failures due to water leaks. 3. Wear on the pump shaft caused by gland packing. 4. Adjustments to rotating equipment while in operation are not possible due to the risk of entanglement. 5. Maintenance requires extensive work using tow trucks and other equipment due to the size of the pumps. We received a consultation expressing a desire to reduce these tasks as much as possible.
